I am writing in reference to the Oct. 30 letter entitled “How Trump could get a third term.” The writer asserts that President Donald Trump could run for vice president on the same ticket as, say, Vice President JD Vance — and, upon the victory of his ticket, have the elected president resign and subsequently be elevated to the presidency for a third term.

This is pure fiction. My source for this assertion? The 12th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which states: “No person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice President of the United States.” It is high time to put this silly backdoor presidency contention to rest. It is explicitly unconstitutional. A simple fact check makes this clear.
