Time for a mandatory retirement age in DC | READER COMMENTARY

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa
Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, 92-year-old chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, recently claimed that “based on the evidence to-date, Arctic Frost and related weaponization by federal law enforcement under [former President Joe] Biden was arguably worse than Watergate.”

Our elected officials are delusional to think that their cognitive and physical impairments do not limit their ability to effectively do their jobs.

For instance, U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi often appears confused and needs assistance from another person whenever she walks.

U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell also often seems confused and continues to fall inside the U.S. Capitol building.

U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, the Senate president pro tempore and another member of Congress with a confused look about him, is 92 years old and may seek another term.

And President Donald Trump? He has trouble staying awake and rambles incoherently whenever he speaks (“‘Arc de Trump’ revealed as the president’s latest ‘America 250’ project,” Oct. 16).

Perhaps it is time to consider a mandatory retirement age similar to that imposed by the Catholic Church, which forces bishops to resign at age 75 and prohibits cardinals from voting for a pope after they are 80 years of age.

The late actress Bette Davis correctly said, “Old age ain’t no place for sissies.” Attention should be paid to this reality.
