Despite the fact that former Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby was soft on people who committed crime, I don’t believe you can say one person is responsible for the recent reduction in crime (“Credit Bates, not mayor, for crime reduction,” Oct. 15).
First, we have officers from the Baltimore Police Department on the streets of Baltimore every day doing their best and risking their lives and doing all they can to arrest criminals. Mayor Brandon Scott is investing a lot of money in trying to bring the community together to prevent the crime from being committed and bringing those who commit crime to justice.
It is like a three-legged stool with the three legs being the mayor, the police and the third leg, Ivan Bates, the current city state’s attorney. Each has their part to play and each can claim some responsibility in this difficult task. Without cooperation, the program fails and the stool falls.
