William S. Staewen, Johns Hopkins-trained pioneer in biomedical engineering, dies

Mr. Staewen was part of the Johns Hopkins team that developed the first implantable cardiac defibrillator.

William S. Staewen, a Johns Hopkins-trained biomedical engineer and co-inventor of the implantable heart defibrillator, died Sept. 19 at 91.
