Five people were shot and two were arrested near Howard University’s campus in D.C. as thousands descended on the campus for homecoming activities, the Metropolitan Police Department and D.C. Fire and EMS officials confirmed.

Police said they responded to reports of shots fired around 8:23 p.m. on the 600 block of Howard Place NW, near the university’s Yard and the School of Architecture building. Roads were reopened shortly after the university wrapped up its Homecoming YardFest festivities and moments before the shooting, police said.

Four adults and a juvenile, none of whom were Howard students, were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two people were taken into custody, and several weapons were found, according to Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith.

Police said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
